You need an equipment register with serial and model per unit (per-unit history was not reached in our test)
ServiceM8
16 tasks tested · 5 documented
How we assess evidenceProfile: Commercial-leaning
Because: It keeps an equipment register with type, serial and model through an add-on labeled Growing plan (T-04). Recurring maintenance from a job template, job costing from recorded hours and the QuickBooks invoice sync all passed (T-11, T-12, T-13). Asked about one payer with six service locations, support answered in writing with a specific setup, a free Client Sites add-on, in under two and a half hours (T-15).
Not for you if: You need per-unit history right away: the register showed our condenser with its serial, but nothing can be recorded against it until a ServiceM8 QR label is scanned on the unit (T-04). You expect the payer and site structure out of the box: as the product comes, billing another address is set per job and every unit address is retyped; the Client Sites add-on support described is untested by us (T-03). You expect offline work to sync on its own: in our test nothing uploaded after reconnecting until the app was closed and reopened, so a technician who waits for the sync may not see offline work (T-09).
Profile: Mixed service + projects
Because: Every one of the 16 tasks ended in pass or partial, with no failures, and quoting, stage billing, recurring visits, job costing and the QuickBooks invoice sync all passed (T-05, T-08, T-11, T-12, T-13). Pricing is by monthly job credits rather than per user, so on Starter and above adding technicians costs nothing until job volume grows (as listed on 2026-09-30), and most of what we tested is an add-on switched on by plan (T-16). A multi-visit job with a deposit and job costing with a labor rate both passed, each through an add-on (labeled Starter plan and Premium plan) switched on in the trial (T-08, T-12).
Not for you if: You expect offline work to sync on its own: in our test nothing uploaded after reconnecting until the app was closed and reopened, so a technician who waits for the sync may not see offline work (T-09). You bill replacements as percentages: the deposit is a hand-priced line that needs an item code, not a share of the job (T-08). Your customer list has several rows per customer: the importer merged same-name rows without warning and kept only the last address (T-01).
Profile: Small residential shop

It was the only product we tested with a native good, better and best package: three options as radio buttons, with the accepted one becoming the work order; Jobber builds the choice from optional line items (T-05).
Not for you if: You expect offline work to sync on its own: in our test nothing uploaded after reconnecting until the app was closed and reopened, so a technician who waits for the sync may not see offline work (T-09). You want equipment history without labels: each unit needs a ServiceM8 QR label scanned on site before any service can be recorded against it (T-04). Your office forces emergencies into full slots: in our run the displaced job dropped out of the day view, with no conflict marker on the board (T-07).

You want card payments without extra setup: with no gateway active, the phone only recorded a card or cash amount by hand (T-10). You work from an Android phone: the full app is iOS, and the Android app is a separate "Lite" version we have not tested (T-16).
