T-12: Job costing for the multi-stage job
Task definition
T-12 · Job costing for the multi-stage job
Version 1.0.0 · Operator role: owner
Pass criteria: Labor + materials vs price, visible without spreadsheets
- Open ridgeline-job-replacement and verify its three Removal, Install and Inspection visits are linked to one job. Record its approved ridgeline-item-replacement-01 option and selling price.
- Enter test labor for ridgeline-person-marcus against each of the three ridgeline-job-replacement visits. Record the exact invented hours and internal cost rate used so the labor total can be reproduced; do not present them as benchmarks.
- Record ridgeline-item-part-01 as material consumed on ridgeline-job-replacement. Enter and note an invented quantity and internal unit cost, keeping cost distinct from the price-book selling amount.
- Open the product's job-cost view for ridgeline-job-replacement and capture its labor cost, material cost and selling price. Check that all three visits contribute to the same job totals.
- Compare the displayed labor and materials totals with the recorded execution inputs for ridgeline-person-marcus and ridgeline-item-part-01. Record differences and whether the product shows cost versus price without exporting to a spreadsheet.

Housecall Pro
Not tested: Housecall Pro advertises a 14-day free trial, but its terms say the service is offered to users who reside in the US or Canada, and when we signed up on September 28, 2026 the onboarding form did not accept our Spanish phone number. Our lab is in Spain, so we have not run our tasks on it. What this page shows comes from public sources and is marked as documented, not tested.

On the multi-stage job #11 ($200 price, RIDGELINE-REPLACE-02 with unit cost $0): Labor > Add time entry for Marcus Fixture, 8h at an employee cost of $10/h (fixture rate typed in the dialog; there is an option to apply the rate to the employee's future timesheet entries), total $80; Expenses > Add expense 'Condenser unit (fixture material)' $50, not reimbursable, receipt upload optional. The job page's 'Total cost to date' card then showed $130.00 with bars Revenue $200.00 / Cost $130.00 (expandable into Labor $80.00 and Expenses $50.00) and Profit 35% $70.00, updated immediately ('Hugo logged a $50.00 expense'). Line-item unit cost is a third cost input (left at $0 here). All visible on the job itself, no report or spreadsheet needed. Not checked: whether job costing is gated on lower paid plans (trial exposes everything); see T-16.

Job costing is the 'Job Costing' add-on (Premium Plan label), switched on through a short activation wizard: labour cost per hour for the 'Labour' item (we entered $25, an invented protocol amount) and material purchase costs (entered manually or by bulk import when no accounting package is connected). Test on Job #3 (Fixture residential customer 02, sale $200, RIDGELINE-REPLACE-02): purchase cost of the item set to $50 (the job line picked it up), and 8 hours of recorded work for Marcus added as a time entry (created through the session API because time is normally recorded by check-in/out in the mobile app). The job's Billing tab then shows Job Time '8 hrs', Admin Time '1 min' and 'Estimated Profit -$50' = $200 sale - $50 material - 8 h x $25 labour, i.e. labour is costed from tracked time and the job shows a loss. Result pass: materials and labour roll into a live per-job profit figure; requires Premium ($149/mo) and a labour cost rate set up front. Time capture in the field to be seen on the mobile day.

ServiceTitan
Not tested: ServiceTitan has no self-serve trial. Its pricing page asks visitors to request pricing or book a demo with sales, and we do not open test accounts through sales calls. What this page shows comes from public sources and is marked as documented, not tested.
Review: ServiceTitanWorkiz
Not tested: Workiz advertises a 7-day free trial, but when we signed up on September 28, 2026 its onboarding asked for a phone number with a fixed +1 prefix, so we could not finish setup from our lab in Spain. The assistant on its website could not confirm availability outside the US and Canada and pointed us to a sales demo. We have not run our tasks on it. What this page shows comes from public sources and is marked as documented, not tested.
